Description:

This canteen exhibits the typical bulbous shaped belly, two

loops for a carrying strap and a single small spout. It is decorated mostly with geometric devices composed of lines and dots on the flatter side, as well as leaf images, visible on the sides. The forms are painted in black and ochre against a dark gray background of the slip. The underside is ochre.

JMBG Notes: Although as yet we have not found this style of decoration on

any other pottery, the resemblance appears to be closest to Cochiti, hence our provisional classification. At the same time, it is also somewhat reminiscent of Santo Domingo decorative devices, which should not be surprising, considering the close proximity of these two neighboring centers.

Condition: Except for a chipped spout rim, the overall condition is
  excellent.
