|
| JMBG Notes: |
This is a very pleasing
and calming presentation of the |
| |
woodlands of Upper New England in the late afternoon of an early autumn day.
The mild colors mellow the mood to the point of a still silence.
Although we attribute these colors to be the choice of the artist,
there is some chance they are more bland than originally intended due
to a possible exposure to strong sunlight. |

|
| Presentation:
|
Framed. As acquired. |
| |
|
| Condition: |
The work was probably
exposed to strong sunlight, |
| |
judging primarily from the crackling of the dark paints in between the
trees in several areas of the lower half of the painting, but
there is no paint loss. The crackling is not visible from the proper
viewing distance. There may have been some sun bleaching of the entire
work, although this is uncertain, and if so, it is difficult to
determine to what degree. Some minor age cracking of the paint is
evident under close examination. Possible minor exposure to smoke. The
frame has a small perforation in the upper right. |
