#NT54
"The Red Jacket" out of Rockport, Me
By Parker M. Gamage
New Harbor, Me.

This is the largest of Gamage’s oil-on-board paintings, as compared to twelve others we have found listed. Only his canvases are generally larger than this work.

JMBG Notes: As most of this artist’s works depict coastal marine scenery,
the depiction of a clipper-ship such as The Red Jacket, built in Rockport, Maine in 1853, is somewhat unique. It is a fine tribute to the naval history of the Maine coast, and a part of Americana.

Presentation: Framed, as acquired. We removed the backing paper to
expose the inscription on the back of the artist panel. The original period frame is left on the work, although a more suitable reframing would bring out the best in this painting.

Condition: Very fine condition. Occasional, hardly visible tiny surface
spots. Minor surface scuffs at margins from the frame. Edges of artist board have few wear spots from fastening nails, but not into the paint. The frame has a very small surface chip.
