| Description: |
A large double-bottomed water pitcher with a hinged
lid. The lid is |
| |
adorned with a "swan" finial. The spout
is supported with a sconce-style decoration with floral devices. An
internal flap was designed to keep ice from escaping through the
spout. The handle is of a "branch and leaf" design. The body of the
pitcher is circumvented with hand-chased decoration consisting
of round, oval and rectangular medallions and borders high-lighted on
each side with appliqué medallions, each with the helmed head of a
classical warrior in high relief. This
design is underlined with chased garlands.
|
| |
|
| Condition: |
Some natural wear of
silver-plate in the most handled areas: top of |
| |
the
handle, upper rim, and sides of spout. The body as well upper and
lower rim surfaces exhibit some dimpling as well as minor scratches
from normal use. Overall good condition with a nice patina.
